UMNO AGM | Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has urged the party not to wait for a bridal gift if asked to form the government.
"Stop dreaming that someone will come with a bridal gift asking us to form the government.
"But if they do come with a bridal gift, and if they just ask us to be passengers, then no.
"We don't want to be second fiddle," he said, adding that BN's defeat on May 9 does not mean the party cannot rise again.
Previously, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said that he is willing to form a unity government with any Pakatan Harapan component party.
Mohamad said Umno can rebuild itself if they remain committed, emphasising again on his message to the Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings to formulate 2030 blueprint to strengthen the party.
Meanwhile, he also cautioned Zahid against completely devolving administrative powers to the party divisions, particularly when it comes to the selection of candidates.
Mohamad warned this could create an environment conducive for money politics.
"This has to be done through negotiations, we can't devolve 100 percent," he said.
Zahid in his closing speech later, concurred with Mohamad, saying that candidates must be chosen by their winnability and likeableness.
He also assured that he will keep a sharp eye on the divisions after power is devolved.
The devolution of powers to divisions is one of the 21 steps Zahid announced in his policy speech last night to reform Umno.
