The organisers of a New Year party on a Langkawi beach had advised patrons to bring along condoms and baby lotion, according to a report in a Bahasa daily.

However, Kedah acting Mentri Besar Mahdzir Khalid got wind of this and immediately issued a warning that no wild parties will be allowed on the legendary island.

Concerned over the report that a Kuala Lumpur-based group was planning a wild party to usher in the New Year, he has directed the police and local authorities to strictly vet all applications for gatherings on Dec 31.

Reject such applications

"I have directed the police and the Langkawi city council to reject applications to hold New Year events promoting free sex and excessive socialising between the sexes," Mahdzir was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying.

Describing the proposed gathering as "appalling", he said if it was allowed, the island's image as a holiday resort would be tarnished.

The wild party was being planned at a private beach in the popular Pantai Cenang.
