A mother of two, who has been on a hunger strike for two weeks to seek justice for her husband, wants the police to send her back to the doorstep of the Internal Security Ministry's office.

If not the ministry, M Rukumani Devi said she will not budge from the Putrajaya hospital despite having been discharged.

The 35-year-old housewife was ' forcibly ' taken to the hospital on Wednesday by the police less than 24 hours after she brought her protest to the administrative capital.

Even at the hospital, she was resolute in her stand not to consume any food or water but after persuasion allowed doctors to administer intravenous drip.

Her brother-in-law A Thirumoorthy said he will not persuade her to leave the hospital.

"The police brought her here against her wishes and ours. Now, the police have to take responsibility," he added when contacted.

Explain why

The family's lawyer M Manoharan said Rukumani refuses to leave the hospital because she wants the police to explain why she was admitted against her will.

Rukumani and her husband A Balakrishnan ( photo ), an MIC branch leader, have been on hunger strike since Nov 30 to protest the latter's banishment to Kelantan under the Emergency Ordinance.

The couple want Deputy Internal Security Minister Noh Omar, who had inked Balakrishnan's previous detention orders, to either free him or charge him in court.

Otherwise, they have vowed to starve to death.

Balakrishnan, a three time Emergency Ordinance detainee, is said to have no criminal record and that he was framed by his political rivals.

He was arrested in connection with gangland activities.
