PD POLLS | Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin made a surprise appearance at the Port Dickson by-election campaign trail tonight to root for Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim.

"I have not made public speeches in almost three months due to my health condition.

"This is the first time I have come out of Kuala Lumpur to give a speech, to express support for Anwar who is contesting in Port Dickson," Muhyiddin told the crowd at a ceramah outside the Bagan Pinang mosque in the parliamentary constituency.

The Bersatu president had been on medical leave for the past three months following a surgery to remove a growth in his pancreas.

Also present were PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chairperson Rais Yatim.

Muhyiddin said the Port Dickson by-election defined "democracy" as it provided room for Anwar to return to the Dewan Rakyat and it was up to Port Dickson voters to decide whether to make this aspiration come true.

"He (Anwar) is the PKR president and it will be very meaningful for the party if Port Dickson voters facilitated his move."

Muhyiddin was not present at the mega-ceramah last Monday which saw Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad campaigning for Anwar.

Anwar will face six other contenders come polling day on Saturday. They include his former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan and former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad.
