Petrol station worker assaulted after fuel mix-up

A petrol station worker in Sungkai suffered bruises on his face after being assaulted by a group of men due to a misunderstanding.

Tapah district police chief Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the incident occurred on Oct 6 at around 12.45pm.

He said the incident was caused by misunderstanding when the 23-year-old victim had mistakenly filled up one of the motorcycles with RON95 instead of RON97 as he was not informed by the man in advance.

“This has angered the man before a group of his friends returned to the counter and dragged the victim out even though the victim had apologised,” he said when contacted today.

Wan Azharuddin said one of the group members hit and threw a canned drink at the victim causing bruises on the victim’s face.

He also added that from the recording obtained from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at the premises, it was difficult to identify the suspects involved, and the registration number of the motorcycles also appeared grainy.

“I urge the public to stop sharing the video clip on social media as it was just a small misunderstanding that occurred several days ago,” he said.

Wan Azharuddin said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing injuries.

The 42-second clip that went viral on Facebook since yesterday showed a petrol station worker being pulled out of the counter before being assaulted by a group of motorcyclists.
