The MACC has summoned Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the fifth time tomorrow in relation to their probe into the alleged abuse of Yayasan Akal Budi funds.
A source close to the investigation said the Umno president will be investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, as well as Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which deals with abuse of power.
Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam, in a statement, said that Zahid has been given notice to surrender himself at the MACC headquarters at 3pm tomorrow, and that he is expected to be charged on Friday.
Lokman called on Umno supporters to converge at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 9pm tomorrow to show solidarity for Zahid, as well as gather at the KL Sessions Court at Jalan Duta at 8am on Friday.
"Let's us be present to defend our president who is now the target of Mahathir DAP's cruel regime. Don't leave our president alone.
"Sacrifice just a day to defend Umno's dignity that is being tarnished by those in power," said Lokman, adding that he will come clad in an orange tee-shirt to denote MACC lock-up attire.
In July, Zahid was questioned twice by the MACC, the first on the alleged donation by the Saudi royal family to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and the second in relation to Yayasan Akal Budi's funds.
A 'mistake'
It was reported that RM800,000 had allegedly been misappropriated from the foundation to pay for credit card bills belonging to Zahid and his wife.
Zahid had said that funds from the welfare foundation had indeed been used to clear credit card debts but claimed that this was due to a mistake by his officer.
This month alone, Zahid has been summoned three consecutive times by the graft-buster agency, with the most recent session being on Oct 12.
