PKR POLLS | In the third and final week of polling in Selangor, PKR deputy president contender Rafizi Ramli today conceded that the odds currently favour his rival Azmin Ali.

"I feel the odds in Selangor are 55/45, 55 in favour of Azmin.

"I expected to lose in Selangor," he told reporters outside the voting centre for Pandan PKR division. He is also up against three contenders for the post of division chief.

Rafizi said, however, that he did not expect the margin in Selangor to be this close – by under 1,000 votes – given that Azmin has been the state PKR chief for 20 years, and was also the former menteri besar.

"What surprised me was the margin of the votes.

"Many in PKR felt that because Azmin has been the Selangor PKR chief since 1998, and he was also menteri besar, at the very least I was expected to lose by 5,000 votes," he said.

Citing support from other states outside Selangor, Rafizi also expressed confidence that he could regain his lead over Azmin when PKR divisions in Sabah and Sarawak go to the polls next weekend.

"Today is the last day of voting in the peninsula. If, for example, my votes are almost similar to Azmin, that would improve my chances in Sabah and Sarawak.

"I expect (votes in) Sabah and Sarawak will be slightly in my favour," he said.

Commenting on voting in Pandan this morning, Rafizi said he was generally satisfied with the overall process, despite a delayed start.

"Except what was a big disappointment for me, I had specifically asked for the central election committee (CEC) to have the IC card reader.

"We want to make sure that you can verify the identity of voters so that they are genuinely PKR voters," he said, noting recurring allegations of "phantom voters" at various divisions.

In Pandan, Rafizi is defending his division chief post against contenders Haniza Talha, Mohd Shaukhi Mohd Hashim and Nor Hayati Haron.

Some 61,000 PKR members from six divisions in Selangor are voting today in the last phase for the state.
