The Pakatan Harapan presidential council is expected to discuss the issue of crossovers from Umno at its meeting on Saturday.

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said this was following speculation that up to 40 Umno MPs could follow in the footsteps of Jeli MP Mustapa Mohamed who last week announced his decision to join Bersatu.

"I read the news but I don't know how far it is true. This is a subject for deliberation for our presidential council meeting on Saturday," the Ampang MP told reporters at Parliament's lobby.

Asked whether she agreed with DAP chairperson Tan Kok Wai's stance that it was an "unhealthy" move for Harapan component parties to accept former Umno MPs, Zuraida said she was unsure what the Cheras MP meant.

"I don't know what that means […] unhealthy can mean a lot of things. So let it be discussed at the meeting," she said.

Similarly, Simpang Renggam MP and Education Minister Maszlee Malik echoed Zuraida's view that the issue should be decided by Harapan's presidential council.

Asked on criticisms against Bersatu for opening its doors to Umno MPs, Maszlee said he was just an ordinary party member with no say in the decision-making process.

"I am not sure. We will discuss with president and Tun," said the Simpang Renggam MP in reference to Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Bersatu's top two leaders.

"I am a minister but in the party, I’m only a normal member," he added.

Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman meanwhile said it was "not right" for Tan to have made the comment before a discussion was held with Mahathir.

"I feel it is not right for Tan Kok Wai to make such a statement without discussing with the Prime Minister," he said.

The Muar MP also pointed out that Amanah president Mohamad Sabu had previously described Mustapa's decision to join Bersatu as a new hope for Harapan in Kelantan.

Tan's comment came two days after Mustapa joined Bersatu, a move which triggered speculations that more Umno leaders would follow suit.
