An express train from Tumpat to Kuala Lumpur carrying 700 passengers derailed early this morning.

According to a Bernama report, the 'Ekspress Wau' derailed at the 102.25 km between Mentakab and Mengkarak at 2.15 am.

However, none of the passengers were injured in the incident, according to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTM). The cause of the incident is being investigated.

All passengers continued their journey from Mentakab to Kuala Lumpur by buses provided by KTM.

The derailment affected two KTM services -Ekspres Timuran Singapura-Tumpat and Ekspres Timuran Tumpat-Singapura, it said.

Meanwhile, KTM had provided buses to enable passengers of both services which were affected by the incident to continue with their journey.

KTM had arranged for 13 buses to transport passengers of Ekspres Timuran Singapura-Tumpat, from its station in Gemas to Mentakab to allow the affected passengers to continue their journey by train to Tumpat.

Passengers of Ekspres Timuran Tumpat-Singapura also used the 13 buses provided by KTM from Mentakab to Gemas station to continue with their journey by train to Singapore.

KTM expects the train service in the affected routes to return to normal by 7 am tomorrow.
