PARLIAMENT | The police will take appropriate action against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor if the couple is implicated in the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, assured Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He was responding to Ramkarpal Singh (Harapan-Bukit Gelugor), who had yesterday urged the police to bring Najib and Rosmah in for questioning.

This followed revelations made by businessperson Deepak Jaikishan in a recent recording which was uploaded online but had since been deleted.

Ramkarpal said what Deepak had mentioned in the interview could help identify the motive behind Altantuya’s murder.

"I have watched the video related to Altantuya and Deepak's new statement which implicated Pekan (parliamentarian Najib) and his wife.

"For us in the Home Ministry, if this is considered as new evidence and new information which has a basis in truth, we will take action," Muhyiddin said when winding up the debate on the mid-term review of the 11th Malaysia Plan at Dewan Rakyat today.

"We may summon Deepak to give a statement first to know what happened," he said.

"If those named are indeed implicated, then a probe is needed. So, the police will take appropriate action," he said.  

Elaborating further, Muhyiddin said the police had submitted their investigation paper on Altantuya’s murder on June 29 to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

He added that the cops had, however, been instructed by the AGC to interview several witnesses again on Oct 10.
