An MCA presidency contender was chased away from the Parliament today after he attempted to hold a press conference without prior approval.

Parliament security personnel also seized a placard reading "Return MCA's dignity" from Ngoo Teck Kiong as they escorted him out of the building.

In the short time he managed to speak to the media, Ngoo urged MCA members to not vote for his opponents Wee Ka Siong and Gan Ping Sieu during the party presidential elections next month.

"Don't vote for Wee and Gan because MCA will be destroyed," Ngoo, who is Beruas MCA Youth chief, told reporters before being evicted.

Ngoo also questioned Parliament security for chasing him off, claiming he did not know the House rules.

One of the security officers later explained that only MPs were allowed to have press conferences at Parliament's lobby.

"He (Ngoo) broke this rule and then brandished a placard at the lobby.

"Only MPs, ministers, deputy ministers as well as the speaker and the deputy, are allowed to hold press conferences at the lobby," he added.

The officer added that Ngoo should have written to the Parliament secretary beforehand if he wished to hold a press conference inside the Parliament building. 

MCA will hold its party election on Nov 4 which will witness a three-way fight between Wee, Gan and Ngoo.

Incumbent MCA president Liow Tiong Lai has said that he will not defend his position due to the party's crippling loss in the 14th general election.
