Gov't postpones student reading assessment system IQ-Nilam

The implementation of the Nilam Quality Index (IQ-Nilam) system will be postponed to enable it to be thoroughly reviewed and improved.

The Education Ministry in a statement today said it had received suggestions and requests from various quarters including the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) for the system to be abolished to ease the burden of teachers.

It said that a new guideline pertaining to the implementation of Iqnilam would be issued in the near future, which would take into account the impact on teachers' workload.

The ministry would also improve the recording system in the Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca (Nilam)  programme to be more user-friendly.

"Teachers can fill in data at any time and not bound by the four-month period,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, for the School Resource Centre Management (PSS), the number of files that need to be handled is reduced from 10 to three files namely PSS Management File, PSS Activity File and Book Stock, it said.

The statement said that the ‘Guru Penyelaras Bestari’ (ICT) did not need to handle the ‘Pembestarian Sekolah’ files separately.

The existing files that have been created in the school file system are sufficient, it said.
