Incumbent Malacca PKR chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has admitted using his official government car for PKR election campaigning at Batu Pahat on Oct 30.

He, however, he denied doing so on purpose, saying he was rushing for party polls at the town having just arrived from a working trip in Columbia.

Shamsul is primary industries deputy minister.

"It was hard for me to change (my car) so we just went straight to the place from the airport," he told media at Parliament's lobby today.

He said he was invited to observe the polls and his driver brought him there.

The issue arose after a party member had written to PKR's election committee to complain that Shamsul had misused government assets for party election campaigning purposes.

"I expected this to happen as I saw the wife of the Kapar parliamentarian taking the picture (of my car)," he said.

Asked if he admitted to wrongdoing, he merely said," You must differentiate between acting on purpose or merely continuously travelling from venue to venue.

He stressed that he always upheld the principle that members of the executive should not abuse government assets.

The Hang Tuah Jaya MP said he was ready to face the party's election committee.

"No problem (for me) as I am used to getting warning (letters)," he quipped.
