Sarawak needs largest allocation, Education Ministry told

BUDGET 2019 | Sarawak deserves either the same or the largest allocation to help improve the state’s education sector since the Education Ministry is the biggest recipient, amounting to RM60.2 billion or 19.1 percent of the government’s total spending in 2019.

Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union president Ahmad Malie said the announcement of the RM2.9 billion provision for educational assistance and RM100 million for the reconstruction of dilapidated schools was in line with the situation faced by the state education sector, which is in need of urgent attention.

“There are still many schools in Sarawak which are in need of upgrading and maintenance while many more pupils are poor and need help if they are to enjoy the educational opportunities.

“Based on these factors, it is clear that Sarawak should be prioritised in the distribution of allocation so that it can help churn out well-balanced students in line with the Education Ministry’s aspirations,” he said today.

Ahmad, who is also Sarawak’s Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) chairman, said the RM400 million allocation for the maintenance and renovation of government quarters should be distributed efficiently for the benefit of civil servants in the state.
