MCMC welcomes National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan

BUDGET 2019 | The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) applauds the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) outlined in Budget 2019 which is in line with the government’s aspiration to enhance Malaysia’s broadband infrastructure.

The commission in a statement said the NFCP would not only ensure that the people could enjoy various services at reasonable prices with access to high-quality infrastructure, but it could also support the digital economy and Industry 4.0.

“In this regard, MCMC will collaborate with the Communications and Multimedia Ministry to plan suitable initiatives and encourage competition in this sector to hasten the provision of such infrastructure,” it said.

The NFCP, according to the statement, would focus on expanding the existing fibre optic network, installing undersea fibre optic cables and developing gigabyte networks in several locations of the state capitals and selected industrial areas, including in Sabah and Sarawak beginning 2019.

It also said that to ensure high-speed, wireless broadband coverage in rural and isolated areas, MCMC would ensure the spectrum distribution be made in a more effective way.
