Businessperson remanded to assist MACC impersonator probe

A businessperson has been remanded for six days to help in the investigation into the case of a man posing as an officer of the MACC and soliciting a RM2 million bribe to solve a case involving a 'datuk seri'.

Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim issued the remand order today on the 48-year-old, who will be in custody until Nov 18.

The man was arrested after giving a statement at the MACC headquarters at about 10.20pm yesterday, and was the fifth person to be detained involving the case.

Last Saturday, four men aged between 33 and 49 were remanded for six days until Nov 15.

According to MACC sources, the four men tried to solicit a RM2 million bribe from a 'datuk seri', who was believed to have a case involving the commission.

The victim then lodged a report with MACC.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC 2009 Act.
