PKR AGM | Rafizi Ramli said today that he decided not to appeal the results of the PKR election to protect incoming party president Anwar Ibrahim from any potential criticism.

"I decided not to prolong the process, because... I believe that after today's congress, our party should fully focus on uplifting Anwar as the eighth prime minister.

"A lengthy elections past today's congress would cause Anwar to be attacked, because there will be those criticising him, and saying that the failure to launch the elections this time is Anwar's failure," he said in his speech at the 13th PKR National Congress in Shah Alam today.

Rafizi, who ran a tight race against incumbent Mohamed Azmin Ali for PKR deputy president, called upon other delegates and leaders who may be dissatisfied with the election results to place their trust in Anwar.

He added that once taking over as president, Anwar would take reasonable action to investigate the incidents marring the party polls.

"Such actions should be taken through the internal party mechanism, so that it does not open up space to outsiders to level accusations against the party and weaken it.

"I am confident that Anwar as the party president would work to ensure any issues which need resolving from this party election would be handled well."

On Friday, Rafizi conceded defeat to Azmin, saying that he did so for the greater good of the party, despite having reasons to appeal.
