PKR AGM | A person who maintains a cool head while under attack will ultimately emerge as the winner, PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said today.

Having emerged victorious against challenger Rafizi Ramli, Azmin reminded members that he has had a long history of defending the post against previous challengers.

"I'm not here easily, I have always had to fight.

"First, I was challenged by Zaid Ibrahim, followed by Khalid Ibrahim," said Azmin in his speech at the 13th PKR national congress held at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam today.

This time around, Azmin joked that he was not being challenged by Rafizi, but instead, the latter was only "offering a service to the party."

"But not a problem. I am cool, I am calm.

"Anwar advised me to remain calm. I said, 'how to stay calm Datuk Seri? I'm being attacked from all sides," he recounted.

Azmin further pointed out that he had over a decade ago attempted to challenge Syed Husin Ali for the deputy president's post, but eventually accepted Anwar's advice for him not to do so, both out of loyalty to the incoming PKR president and out of respect for the party veteran.

"When Anwar advised me, 'Azmin don't disturb my teacher (Syed Husin)', I withdrew my candidacy.

"So if I can withdraw...," said Azmin who turned to look towards Rafizi, but did not finish his sentence. At that point, the cameras zoomed in on the latter.

Azmin also urged members to follow his example of being "calm and cool" while under attack, although he was quick to add that it was an ordinary part of a democratic election process.

Ahead of the official result announcement this afternoon, Azmin reaffirmed that his role as a deputy to outgoing president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Anwar was to make all preparations for whatever task they are planning to do.

Azmin added that the task could be as menial as cleaning fish for Wan Azizah to cook when he accompanied the couple on a trip to Oxford, United Kingdom.

After nearly a month-long election marred by various allegations made by rival camps, Rafizi and Azmin had in their speeches at the congress urged their supporters to reconcile and close ranks under Anwar's leadership as PKR president.
