PAS declares human rights treaties a threat

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan, at a congress against the Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (Icerd), declared United Nations' human rights treaties a national threat.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the decision not to ratify Icerd was made prior to protests from conservative groups.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said ratifying Icerd should not come at the price of another riot.

Former chief justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad described the battle against Icerd as efforts to protect bumiputera rights and declared that this "war" was not yet over.

Auditor-general confirms 1MDB report tampering

Auditor-general Madinah Mohamad claimed that then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had instructed, in 2016, for information in the auditor-general's report on 1MDB to be expunged.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi refused to weigh into the alleged tampering and directed questions on the matter to Najib.

Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia said if the tampering allegation was true, Najib and civil servants who were complicit were traitors.

Shafee & Co, the law firm representing Najib, claimed that the altering of the 1MDB report before publication by the auditor-general's report was "standard procedure".

The law firm also accused the government of trying to influence Najib's 1MDB graft trial with the revelation.
