55 remanded over temple riots, cops appeal for info on 28

Authorities have remanded a total of 55 people so far to assist in investigations into the riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya last week.

According to Bernama, Petaling Jaya magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham issued remand orders between two to seven days against a further 11 individuals today.

The 11 are aged between 18 to 50 years, and are being investigated under Sections 435, 148, 427, and 447 of the Penal Code.

These provisions pertain to, respectively, mischief by fire or explosive substances, possessions of weapons or missiles at a riot, committing mischief, and criminal trespass.

Additionally, eight other suspects had their remand orders extended by three days.

In a separate statement, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Division director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd appealed to members of the public to help identify 28 suspects to assist investigations into the rioting.
