'Azmin, 20 MPs to join Bersatu' - PKR leaders say not true

PKR members have been sharing a message claiming that deputy president Azmin Ali and 20 MPs would join Bersatu.

The message is also making the rounds on social media.

However, the Star Online reported PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is aligned to Azmin, as stating that it was “unlikely” and “not true”.

"I don't know which group is propagating this," she added.

PKR central leadership council member R Sivarasa Rasiah also denied that Azmin is leaving PKR.

The party led by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's designated successor Anwar Ibrahim is being rocked with internal problems between two factions.

On Monday, PKR member Latheefa Koya, who is also part of Azmin's faction, accused Anwar of nepotism and cronyism in the appointment of party state chiefs.

Hours later, Anwar's daughter Nurul Izzah announced her resignation as PKR vice-president and the party's Penang chief.

The Permatang Pauh MP later tweeted that she made the right choice in backing former vice-president Rafizi Ramli in his bid to unseat Azmin as number two.

Following this, a source close to Azmin told Malaysiakini that their faction intends to block Rafizi and former secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution from being appointed to key positions in the central leadership council (MPP).

The source also accused Anwar of siding with Rafizi with regard to the appointment of state leaders.

"There was manipulation in the selection of state leaders as Anwar hopes to put enough members in the MPP to back the appointment of Saifuddin and Rafizi as secretary-general and vice-president respectively, or whatever (posts),” the source claimed.
