PAS Youth has announced a New Year's Eve rally for Malaysians to protest against what it claims to be false promises made by the Pakatan Harapan government.

Its chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi in a statement today said that the "Hit & Run Derita Rakyat" rally will take place on Dec 31 at 10pm in front of Sogo Shopping Centre and other selected locations nationwide.

"Not only does the Harapan government appear to lack political will to resolve past problems, it also lacks ideas to push for future change.

"Therefore this outpouring of suffering must be amplified throughout the nation. The message must be delivered to the government as a signal from the people," said Abdul Khalil.

Given the circumstances, Khalil said PAS Youth has taken an initiative to provide a platform for the people to voice out their grievances.

"Come peacefully in droves to be in solidarity to urge the Harapan government to address the people's suffering," said Khalil.

Among others, Khalil said the government has so far failed to address the rising cost of living among Malaysians.

"Many allocations that were given to the poor, low-income, students, farmers, fishermen, and among others, were either slashed or abolished.

"On the other hand, the allocation initiative is seen to only benefit the rich," he claimed.

This was on top of the the government's decision to replace the Goods and Services Tax (GST) with the Sales and Services Tax (SST), which Khalil said has not succeeded to address the rising cost of goods.

"At present, the Consumer Price Index and the inflation rate continues to record an increase, and at the same time, contributing to the decrease in the people's spending power," he said, adding that youth unemployment is also on the rise.
