Daim added that he does not believe that Harapan is taking over the media in terms of press freedom.
Rashid served as press secretary to the then-finance minister from February 2000 to May 2001.
He was appointed as NST group editor at the beginning of the year.
Rashid had joined NST's parent company, New Straits Times Press Berhad, in September 1986 as a reporter with Malay Mail.
He was then appointed as NST associate editor in March 2010, and promoted to deputy group editor in November 2012.
He subsequently left NST in December 2014 and started Apa Khabar TV, which describes itself on its Facebook page as "a story-telling site, developing content on people, food and places from fresh perspectives."
