Former DAP vice-president Zulkifli Mohd Noor passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack while on a trip to Sungai Petani.

Zulkifli, 71, who left DAP to form the People's Alternative Party (PAP) after the 2015 national polls, leaves behind his wife, three children and five grandchildren.

Former PAP vice-president Rahmad Isahak confirmed his comrade's demise.

"I received a call at 4am this morning about Zulkifli's passing. I am saddened by the news," Rahmad told Malaysiakini.

"Although our political programmes are fewer now, we kept in touch through the phone. He was quite ill the last time I saw him a few weeks ago.

"Zulkifli also told me never to give up in politics, to always persevere and speak up whenever necessary, but not to make enemies with anyone. When we criticise, always base your criticisms on facts."

From the Sungai Petani hospital, Zulkifli's remains were brought to his house in Taman Sahabat.

His body will be buried at the Sg Nibong Besar mosque after asar prayers today.

A jovial but outspoken leader, Zulkifli decided to leave DAP after serving the party for 26 years, citing differences with the leadership in Penang.

Zulkifli, Rahmad and eight other members resigned from the PAP in February last year after a disagreement with the party's new central executive committee members.
