The Umno Overseas Club Alumni Organisation, which had lodged a police report against member of parliament Teresa Kok for exposing the nude ear-squat scandal, was hit with a counter police report today.

The police report accused the club of making a number of inaccurate allegations against Kok, who is also opposition party DAP's publicity chief.

In his police report - which was lodged at the Sentul police station - DAP Youth assistant publicity secretary Lau Weng San claimed that the Umno club had "tarnished Kok's good name" and its police report breached a number of laws.

On Monday, Umno overseas club alumni member Abd Razak Mohd Ghazali lodged a police report against Kok, member of parliament for Kuala Lumpur's Seputeh, for "storing, distributing and disseminating pornographic material of a nude woman doing squats" at the Parliament lobby last November.

Abd Razak was quoted as claiming that Kok had "by intention, words and deed" distributed the video clip by way of a laptop computer to several members of parliament and journalists.

He had also claimed that Kok had wrongly identified the woman in the video clip as a Chinese national tourist.

However, Lau explained that Kok had never referred the woman in question as a Chinese national.

"Kok has explained many times that she had never claimed the woman in the video clip was a Chinese tourist... therefore this police report has twisted the facts and it was made with bad intention," said Lau in his police report. A copy of the report was made available to malaysiakini.

Kok had earlier argued that it was the mainstream media, some of which owned by Umno, that had speculated that the woman was a Chinese national.

Lau said among the laws the Umno club's police report had violated were the Printing Presses and Publications Act and the Penal Code, and he urged the police to probe the matter.

He reiterated that the video clip shown by Kok was not pornographic but was a crucial piece of evidence to prove the abuse endured by the woman victim in the video clip. Hence there was no basis to charge Kok for distributing pornographic material, he added.

Report an insult to PM

Lau also lambasted Abd Razak's police report, which he said had insulted the wisdom of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his cabinet in setting up an independent commission of inquiry into the ear-squat affair.

"Kok was merely discharging her duty as the people's representative. If she did not disclose the video clip to media, parliamentarians and ministers at the Parliament's building, she would be seen as failing to discharge her duties," said Lau.

Kok said yesterday that the complainant had not done enough homework before lodging the report, which coincided with the release of the commission of inquiry's report on the scandal.

The commission report had recommended an end to such humiliating strip searches.

Umno club's chief Noh Omar, who is also the deputy internal security minister, has denied knowledge of Abd Razak's police report.

He told malaysiakini yesterday that the report was not made on his instruction.

Noh had been criticised by some rights groups for failing to correct media reports that the victim in the nude-squat scandal was a Malaysian, not a Chinese national.
