Former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is set to make his return to the political scene this Thursday, almost two months after he went on leave as Umno president.

Zahid's return will be at a forum in his Bagan Datuk constituency, on PAS and Umno's alliance.

He will be speaking in his capacity as Bagan Datuk Umno chief, and sharing the stage with his PAS counterpart Misbahul Munir Masduki.

Zahid's last public event was a dialogue with Umno members on Dec 18. That same night he announced that he would be stepping aside as party president.

Since then, Zahid has kept a relatively low profile.

His Twitter feeds for the past two months were mostly of photos of him praying at various mosques, and attending weddings.

His political tweets were to pray for Cameron Highlands BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor, thanking PAS for campaigning for the latter, and congratulating him on his victory.

Zahid's duties as Umno president are currently being carried out by his deputy Mohamad Hasan.

Zahid has said that he will only resume his duties if Mohamad no longer wants the job.
