(AFP) Thousands of people were evacuated today morning from the world's tallest office buildings in Kuala Lumpur after a bomb scare.

Deputy police chief Dell Akhbar Khan told AFP police were searching the 88-floor Petronas Twin Towers.

It was not immediately clear whether there was a link to the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington in which hijacked airliners were crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York.

Some US officials have suggested that Muslim extremists could be responsible for the attacks.
