Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is still BN secretary-general, said the coalition's acting chairperson Mohamad Hasan.
He added that Padang Rengas MP Nazri Abdul Aziz's appointment to the post was never formalised, while Tengku Adnan had never resigned nor was he removed from his post.
"We have agreed for Tengku Adnan to remain as secretary-general until a time when he resigns or is removed," Mohamad said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said this after chairing the first BN meeting since the 14th general election last year.
Nazri had been appointed as secretary-general last year by then BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
However, MCA and MIC have argued that his appointment was invalid, as it did not fulfil the criterion set by the coalition’s constitution whereby the chairperson should inform the supreme council of the appointment.
MCA and MIC had also taken issue with alleged racist remarks made by Nazri, purportedly threatening to close down Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools.
Nazri has denied this, saying that if Malay privileges were questioned, so too would Chinese and Indian privileges.
Nazri said he welcomed today's decision by the BN supreme council as it freed him to speak his mind.
