An Allouette helicopter from the 881 Squadron of the Army Air Wing crashed on the runway area of the Mahkota Army Camp in Kluang, Johor, today.

According to Bernama , the two pilots and the quartermaster on board are safe.

An army spokesman identified the pilots as Major Yazid Yusuf, 35, and Major Suhaimi Salleh, 40, and the quartermaster as Staff Sgt Mohamad Zamri Mat Saad, 29.

Mohamad Zamri, who was injured in the mishap, is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Kluang Hospital.

Board of inquiry

The helicopter was on a standard check with two pilots and a quartermaster on board when the mishap happened at 9.50am.

The Defence Ministry said the Army would set up a board of inquiry to establish the cause of the incident.

However, the ministry did not state the fate of the pilots and the quartermaster.

Army Deputy Chief Lt-Jen Muhammad Ismail Jamaluddin will hold a press conference on the crash at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru at 3pm.
