Genting 2005 net profit up 34 percent
Malaysian gaming and power conglomerate Genting Bhd said its 2005 net profit rose 34 percent to RM1.24 billion (US$340 million) from RM928 million a year earlier.

The group attributed its performance to higher revenue from its leisure and hospitality, property, manufacturing and oil and gas businesses.
Genting posted fourth-quarter net profit of RM346.67 million in the period ending December 31, from RM239.27 million a year earlier.
Lim family
"In line with the government's continued policy to promote Malaysia as an international tourist destination and barring unforeseen circumstances, the leisure and hospitality divisions' performance is expected to be satisfactory for the coming financial year," it said.
Malaysia's sole casino operator, Genting is controlled by the family of tycoon Lim Goh Tong. It also runs a gamut of businesses ranging from power to properties in Malaysia.
Its crown jewel is a hilltop casino resort in central Pahang state, which attracts more than 15 million visitors each year.
