Police ready to reinvestigate ex-telco CEO over sex abuse allegations

Police are ready to reinvestigate the former telco CEO who is said to have sexually abused his daughters.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said today that the Attorney-General's Chambers classified the previous investigations against the individual as 'no further action' (NFA), due to a lack of evidence.

"Usually when the decision comes out as NFA, it is because there was no solid evidence," he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman.

"(In the ex-CEO's case) there was evidence, but not enough to implicate him if he was to be charged in court.

"However, police are ready to find or receive fresh evidence. If there is new convincing evidence, of course the AGC will consider a charge."

On May 16, the former telco CEO was arrested for allegedly trespassing his ex-wife's property and issuing a death threat against her.

Subsequently, a daily reported that the incident was just the tip of the iceberg, as it learned that the woman had filed at least 15 police reports against the suspect in the past – some related to allegations that he had molested their daughters.

Federal Criminal Investigation Department chief Uzir Mohamed said that since 2013, the police have received 17 police reports from the woman against the man.

In light of the recent case, Uzir added, these reports will be reviewed.

"The reviews are being done by the Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) principal assistant director Choo Lily.

"We will discuss it in the meeting today for the next course of action," he said.

Uzir also noted that police are still investigating the alleged trespassing and the death threat against the suspect's ex-wife.
