Fireworks are expected when PKR's political bureau meets this afternoon, with vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin expected to demand Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz's sacking from the party.
Zuraida, who is also the housing and local government minister, is known to be a close associate of PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who has been implicated in a sex scandal.
Speaking to reporters in Putrajaya this evening, she said stern action must be taken against Haziq as his conduct embarrassed and tarnished the party leadership.
“Yes. (I will push for his sacking),” she said when asked to comment on the party not acting against Haziq, who confessed to being the other person in the sex clips.
According to Zuraida, it is unwise for the party not to take action against Haziq (photo) despite his confession.
"Sex against the order of nature is a crime in this country," she added.
As for Azmin's claim that the sex videos are part of a campaign to ruin his political career and that it was an inside job, Zuraida said she would leave it to the police to investigate.
"If Azmin is considered an offender, but has denied his involvement, then we leave it to the police to investigate," he said.
Haziq, the Santubong PKR Youth chief, had claimed it was Azmin in the videos and that their alleged sexual encounter took place in the latter's hotel room in Sandakan last month.
Meanwhile, Zuraida dismissed the calls for Azmin to step down over the sex videos as nonsensical.
“Those who make such statements must be more rational," she added.
This afternoon's political bureau meeting will be chaired by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
Previously, Anwar said the leadership would wait for the outcome of the police investigation into the matter before deciding on Haziq's fate.
Yesterday, Azmin's adviser Khalid Jaafar said not taking action against Haziq would be perceived as a failure on the part of the leadership, especially its president.
