Tuan Ibrahim: Social media can 'kill' the soul

Dressed in a green songket baju Melayu and a matching headgear, Tuan Ibrahim in his speech at the 60th PAS Youth muktamar (general assembly) said he was asked about the lack of a keris to complete his ensemble.

Dressed in a green songket baju Melayu and a matching headgear, Tuan Ibrahim in his speech at the 60th PAS Youth muktamar (general assembly) said he was asked about the lack of a keris to complete his ensemble.
"Someone asked where is my keris, but I instead showed them my mobile phone.
"The keris can (literally) kill, but social media can kill your soul," he warned the 721 PAS Youth delegates from 169 divisions nationwide gathered at the Bukit Gambang Resort in Kuantan.
"So use our weapon wisely, make sure that we earn merit (pahala) from social media.
Tuan Ibrahim said while PAS was not worried about its sources of information, what was of concern was the uncontrollable nature of the Internet and social media, particularly now when the party was not in a position of power.
"We issue statements through our information chief, but we cannot control social media.
"So what are our safeguards? Everyone is responsible for what he writes and shares," he said in urging PAS members to use social media as a platform to champion the party's struggle.
"When the president's message (speech) has been delivered, please help to share it widely," he added.
Commenting on information shared through social media, the Kubang Kerian MP further reminded that Islam taught the principle of tabayyun or verification before accepting something as fact.
On a separate matter, Tuan Ibrahim urged the government to crack down on purported liberal teachings espousing that all religions were equal.
"We have always respected the rights of non-Muslims and never forced non-Muslims to accept Islam, but liberal ideas are very dangerous because they say all religions are the same.
"They say all our rights are the same, but the Federal Constitution has placed Islam as the official religion on the federation. So I urge the government to stop the spread of liberal ideas," he said.
Met later, PAS Youth vice-chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari explained that the party had planned to feature the theme of Pahang's famous warriors Tok Gajah and Mat Kilau at today's launch including through their outfits.
"But we can't use the keris because Pahang is still in mourning.
"According to Malay custom, the keris is not used during periods of mourning," he told Malaysiakini in reference to the passing of Pahang's former ruler Sultan Ahmad Shah on May 22.
The late Sultan Ahmad Shah served as the sultan from 1974 till Jan 15, 2019, when he abdicated due to ill health.
