Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad held a closed-door meeting with the MPs, senators and menteris besar from his party Bersatu yesterday.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman shared pictures of the meeting on this Twitter, which were accompanied by a caption stating that they fully support Mahathir.

"We extend our full support to Mahathir and will focus to fight for the people. Their problems are our problems.

"No need to be arrogant, be sincere in delivering service to all," his tweet read.

Among the more notable attendees at the closed-door meeting were Bersatu president and Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, supreme council member and Education Minister Maszlee Malik, as well as Perak menteri besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Syed Saddiq did not disclose the purpose of the meeting, which is believed to have taken place in Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.

Malaysiakini has contacted the minister's representatives for further details.

Of late, leaders from both sides of the political divide have expressed their support for Mahathir to serve out his full term as prime minister.

This includes PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali and Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

The prime minister completing his full term in office would seem to go against what Pakatan Harapan had agreed to prior to the last general election.

At its inaugural convention, Harapan leaders signed an agreement that Mahathir would be the seventh prime minister, after which he would hand over the premiership to Anwar Ibrahim.

The agreement, however, did not state a time frame for Mahathir to do so.
