MACC chief Latheefa Koya has denied that there will be any organisational changes in the anti-graft agency due to deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki going on sick leave.

"The report is uncalled for and without any basis whatsoever.

"Azam has been discharged from hospital and even came in to the office today. He is expected to officially resume his work next week on Aug 22," she said in a statement today.

Malaysiakini earlier cited several MACC sources as saying that it was likely that an acting deputy chief commissioner would be appointed to oversee operational matters due to Azam's health condition.

Latheefa had not responded to requests for comment prior to the article being published.

Malaysiakini had sent her WhatsApp messages regarding this on Aug 3 and Aug 7 which she read, but did not respond to. Numerous phone calls to her also went unanswered.

According to sources, Azam, 56, who is in charge of operations, was admitted to Putrajaya Hospital last month.

Several days after he was discharged, the senior officer is said to have collapsed and was admitted to the intensive care unit.
