Najib, Rosmah, Umno and jeweller seek to intervene in RM680m 1MDB suit
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor and their two children, Umno and Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty Trading SAL will stake their claims in the RM680 million 1MDB forfeiture suit against Obyu Holdings Bhd.

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor and their two children, Umno and Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty Trading SAL will stake their claims in the RM680 million 1MDB forfeiture suit against Obyu Holdings Bhd.
This was revealed by lawyers representing the four parties during case management of the suit before Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah this morning.
Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, David Gurupatham, Nor Fazreen Hazrina Rahim and Azrul Zulkifli Stork are acting for Najib, Umno, Rosmah and her two children, and Global Royalty respectively.
Obyu Holdings is owned by Bustari Yusof, a close associate of Najib.
The government filed the forfeiture suit against Obyu Holdings – owned by known Najib associate Bustari Yusof – over the 11,991 items of jewellery police had seized from properties occupied by Najib's family at the Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur last year.
Najib and Umno are seeking to claim monies, while Rosmah and her two children, Nooryana Najwa and Nor Ashman, as well as Global Royalty are seeking to claim jewellery and other accessories.
"We appear for Najib, who will come in as a third party claiming certain currencies, mostly foreign, which is his personal money, as well as personal effects, such as watches and so on, and various accessories," Shafee told the court.
Today’s case management follows the same court allowing on Aug 23 the MACC's application to gazette notice for third parties to stake any claim on the monies and assets being seized.
According to Shafee, his client enquired several months ago on the monies and assets, but only recently came to know about the third party notice.
During today's proceedings, Nor Fazreen informed the court that Umno is seeking to claim RM1 million of the money.
"We appear on behalf of Umno in the claim for cash of RM1 million," she said.
Gurupatham, meanwhile, revealed that his client Global Royalty is seeking to claim several pieces of jewellery seized by authorities.
"We appear on behalf of (Global Royalty) in the civil suit for several pieces of jewellery seized," he said.
Gurupatham informed the court that the jewellery is also linked to a separate Kuala Lumpur High Court action.
In June, Global Royalty filed a US$14.79 million (RM59.831 million) suit against Rosmah for the return of the jewellery seized from the Pavilion Residences units.
After the parties made known their intent to stake their claim, lawyer Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin reiterated that they object to the main suit and will present their case later.
Sequerah then fixed Oct 31 to hear their third party claims, and reminded them to file their applications before that date.
