UiTM partners foreign university for computer science programme

University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) today boosted its academic repertoire by establishing a Bachelor of Computer Science Degree Programme through a strategic partnership with the University of Birmingham.

The three-year collaboration was sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement by UiTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Mohamad Kamal Harun and University of Birmingham Computer Science degree coordinator Ian Kenny.

Kamal said the University of Birmingham's selection was based on its various successes in education besides being one of the world's leading institutions.

He said through the agreement, selected students from the UiTM Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics would have the opportunity to complete their degree at the university abroad.

“The selected students will study for three semesters at UiTM and four semesters at the University of Birmingham. They will also receive a scholarship of 20 percent of the total fees payable.

"Selected students who have successfully graduated from the programme will receive two bachelor degrees from UiTM and the University of Birmingham," he said.

He added that the idea of creating such a collaboration came about following the rapid growth in the digital world.

"We are taking the opportunity to form partnerships with foreign universities as a strategy to produce computer science graduates that are relevant to current and future technology needs," he said.

Kamal said that with the cooperation, the quality of education and research at UiTM would be enhanced to global standards.
