Lawyer: Four to face new LTTE-linked charge, including 2 DAP reps

Two DAP assemblypersons and two others accused of having purported links to defunct terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are expected to face a new charge at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow.
Lawyer Harshaan Zamani, who is a part of the legal team acting for the suspects, told Malaysiakini that DAP member V Suresh Kumar is also expected to be charged for the first time in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
"All five are expected to be charged at 8am tomorrow," said Harshaan.
Of the four suspects facing additional charges, three of them - Gadek assemblyperson G Saminathan, Seremban Jaya assemblyperson P Gunasekaran, and S Chandru - were charged under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code at the Malacca Sessions Court yesterday.
Their charges were related to supporting the LTTE and possessing and displaying items linked to the group.
Saminathan was also slapped with an additional charge under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, for possession of materials linked to the terrorist group in a handphone.
The fourth suspect, 27-year-old technician S Arivainthan, was charged with supporting LTTE since 2014, under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code at the Kuala Kangsar Sessions Court.
Police had in total detained 12 suspects under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) for their alleged links to LTTE.
Ten of the suspects, including the five represented by Harshaan's team, were charged in courtrooms across the country yesterday.
Seven others may face related charges
Online checks show that it is not only the five suspects, but also another seven individuals who may also be facing fresh related charges at three separate Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court hearings tomorrow.
The said seven individuals that may be facing new charges are B Subramaniam, A Kalaimughilan, R Sundram, M Pumugan, S Thanagaraj, S Teeran, V Balamurugan.
Out of the seven, Subramaniam will be charged for the first time.
Earlier this week, Kalaimughilan was charged at the Selayang Sessions Court, Sundram at the Sepang Sessions Court, Pumugan and Thanagaraj at the Butterworth Sessions Court, Teran at Segamat Sessions Court, and Balamurugan at the Kuala Kangsar Sessions Court.
All suspects facing fresh charges tomorrow will be charged under Section 130J(1)(a), with some facing an additional charge under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code.
Tomorrow's charges will be read before three Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judges, namely Rozina Ayob, Azura Alwi, and Azman Ahmad.
