Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the settlement only showed that Low had committed wrongdoings.
"Until today, many still deny that there was a problem in 1MDB and they said we lied (when we pointed out) about 1MDB," he said in Dewan Rakyat during the winding-up of the debate on Budget 2020.
"Why did he pay if there was no wrongdoing at all?
"The government wishes to stress that the repayment of close to US$1 billion would not free him from the criminal charges or wrongdoings," the Bagan MP said.
The DOJ believed that at least US$4.5 billion has been misappropriated from 1MDB and is working with Malaysia to recover the alleged stolen funds.
When Lim continued with his winding-up debate, Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) stood up and said he heard Lim utter the words "1MDB coming" when Najib Abdul Razak (BN-Pekan) entered the House.
"This is mala fide (bad faith), the court has yet to make a ruling on 1MDB," said Shahidan.
Lim retracted his remark after Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof instructed him to do so.
