ADIB CASE | Police are seeking the assistance of medical experts to facilitate investigation into the murder case of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim (above), said CID director Huzir Mohamed.

He told reporters today that police have made a request to the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) for their views on the victim's post-mortem report.

"We have sought MMC for their view on the specialist's post-mortem report. We are still waiting for their answer, if they have any comment on that," Huzir told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam today.

The senior officer was updating members of the press on the progress of police investigation in cases that are of public interest.

When asked why the police is consulting MMC as the Shah Alam coroner's court has already deliberated on Adib's cause of death, Huzir (below, centre) said they needed experts to advise investigators as there were differing views on the incident.

 

"We want to seek the views of experts, whether there are contradictions or not. Because there are two differing views.

"Police do not have the expertise. (So) we ask the experts," he said.

The police have also mobilised its Forensics Unit to do a re-enactment of the incident using a 3D scanner machine, according to Huzir.

So far, he added, investigators have recorded statements from a total of 31 people, including police officers who were at the scene, chemistry experts, hospital specialists, and members of the public.

They are expected to call more witnesses to aid the investigation, including experts who testified in the inquest into Adib's death.

Huzir said police are also seeking nine other people, whom he said were bystanders during the incident last year, to come forward to facilitate the investigation.

"On the photos of 21 witnesses that we have (previously) published, there are nine more (see photos).

"We are seeking for these witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation into Adib's death.

"Police believe they are bystanders who were in the vicinity of the incident scene," said Huzir.

Adib, a firefighter attached to the Subang Jaya fire station, was seriously injured during riots near the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor, on Nov 26, 2018.

He died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17, 2018, after succumbing to injuries sustained during the incident.

An inquest was ordered after two conflicting versions on the cause of his death emerged.

One version claimed he was hit by a vehicle while the other said he was beaten up by a mob.

The Coroner's Court in Shah Alam concluded the inquest into Adib's death on July 24 after a total of 30 witnesses were called during the 41-day hearing.

Coroner Rofiah Mohamad ruled on Sept 27 that Adib died due to criminal act that was committed by unidentified assailants during the riot.
