PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and vice president Zuraida Kamaruddin have turned up at the PKR political bureau meeting today, after being absent for over a year.
When met by reporters as he left the PKR headquarters at 9.35pm, Azmin (photo) said he considers the internal problems that dogged the party in 2019 to be “history”, and 2020 would be the year to move forward.
“I think 2020 is a good start. We will meet more often to discuss.
“We must have mutual respect and understanding to unite the party,” he told reporters.
He said this when asked to comment on the scuffles that marred the PKR Youth Congress in Malacca last month.
He said each party leader must take responsibility for the incident.
“I think we have learnt (from the incident),” he said.
When asked whether that meant he would attend party meetings more often this year, Azmin said the issue does not arise as he would surely attend meetings if there are no “pressing government matters”.
“Several senior leaders could not attend today… there’s no issue. But if Azmin is absent it becomes an issue; if he is present that too becomes an issue. I don’t know what to do actually,” Azmin said.
As for rumours that Zuraida would be sacked, Azmin told reporters, “Don’t listen to rumours”.

Meanwhile, when Zuraida (above) was asked about the possibility of being sacked when she left the building at 9.45pm, she said she would worry about the issue later.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” she said.
When asked on the same matter, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said disciplinary matters were not discussed at today’s meeting.
“The Disciplinary Board informed that investigations are still ongoing. No action has been taken yet,” he said.
Instead, the meeting only discussed party plans, and several other matters, including the conflict between Iran and the US.
Earlier today, Free Malaysia Today said the issue of Zuraida’s sacking would be discussed at the party’s central leadership council meeting on Jan 18.
This followed her speech last month where she was alleged to have openly criticised the party and disclosed private conversations with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
