PKR national advisor Anwar Ibrahim will be in Sarawak next week to campaign for the party's candidates contesting in the state election.

The former deputy premier will be in the state for three days, according to State PKR legal advisor and candidate for Padungan Dominique Ng.

Included in Anwar's programme will be his attendance at PKR's 200-table dinner gathering at the new Trivillion commercial centre in Padungan.

Besides the PKR supremo, Ng and the PKR candidate for Batu Kawah Wong Huan Yu will also be speaking at the dinner.

PKR, part of the opposition grouping Barisan Bersatu Sarawak (BBS), is contesting in 21 Malay/Melanau majority seats and four Chinese majority seats. The other member Snap is contesting in 29 Dayak majority seats.

Breakthrough

DAP, which does not belong to the BBS but has reached an electoral understanding with PKR, is contesting 11 Chinese majority seats and one Malay/Melanau majority seat while PAS is contesting one seat.

Sixty-nine seats are now left up for grabs after the BN won two seats uncontested - Daro and Dalat - on nomination day (May 9).

PKR is hoping to make a breakthrough in Sarawak this time. The party failed to wrest a single seat in previous state and parliamentary elections.

One area where its chances are said to be reasonably good is the Chinese majority seat Padungan in the heart of Kuching City.

Anwar is also expected to visit an Iban longhouse in Sri Aman to lend support to BBS-Snap candidates.
