MIC president S Samy Vellu has urged candidates contesting for the party's Wanita posts to be discreet and not resort to mudslinging in the run up to the elections.

"I have already advised those who want to contest party posts, including Wanita members, not to hurl allegations and say bad things about one another.

"If they want to campaign this way, they must do it discreetly," Samy said yesterday according to a report in the Star.

A catfight seems to be building as MIC Wanita members gear up for the nomination's of the wing's top post and deputy leader on May 20.

Incumbent wing chief Jaya Partiban is set to face off against Wanita secretary Komala Krishnamoorthy (left) and Bukit Bintang division chief G Rajeswari.

Elections will be held on June 20 this year.

'I will issue a letter'

This will be followed on June 24 by the elections for the party's deputy president, three vice-presidents and 23 Central Working Committee posts will be held on June 24.

"I knew there were people going around saying (bad) things about others. But I thought that was over," said Samy Vellu.

"If there are members still doing it, they better stop. If they don't, I will issue them a letter," he warned.

This is the first in a long time that the Wanita chief's post is being contested. In the party central elections, all eyes will be on the tussle for the deputy president's post where incumbent S Subramanian will square it out with G Palanivel.
