Two Tamil newspapers claim that they have recordings of MIC president S Samy Vellu saying that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had given nothing for the Indians under the Eighth Malaysia Plan. The MIC head honcho has denied this. A reader says let the public decide. Other issue that readers touch on include the Mahathir DVD and the 'close one eye' controversy.

On Samy: Dr Mahathir gave us a lot

LS Kong: Makkal Osai and Malaysia Nanban have to make public the recordings/takes they claim to have in their possession.

Let the people hear it and decide who is telling the truth.

Fellow Malaysian: What is the issue between Samy and Mahathir? The former has enriched himself and the latter has enriched himself and the people around him. Either way the general community, meaning the masses, has not benefitted.

There must be a bigger agenda (politically) brewing around this issue and this is probably a diversion which we, the public, cannot see. Or are this guys are so bored that they start bickering about each other?

Why waste our energy and time on such issues because it is not going to change anything in the masses' life. Do what is best you can do and benefit the community in your own way.

On Mahathir vents frustration on DVD

Tun, you are absolutely right. The new PM is not willing to take risks, including confronting the ex-PM on various past and present issues.

What we Malaysians see now 'is a desire (by the current PM) to avoid risks (by not confronting the ex-PM responsible for much of the problems in the country) at all costs even if the country goes to the dogs (because of the ex-PM's past and present actions)'.

On ACA to quiz 'close one eye' MP

R J Noel: It's too much to ask BN MPs to vote with their conscience? Are they are unfamiliar to have such niceties demanded of them?

Think of the wheeling and dealing that is currency come party elections. The favours and promises of largesse exchanged for that endorsement to become a candidate in the Parliamentary elections. This is the 'asam garam' of BN-style politics.

When they enter the August chambers they cannot remember how they got there and to whom they are beholden to for the YB title. So what the boss says goes, never mind the logic or the missing strand of credibility.

How else will you get ministers sent off to China to apologise for a sin Malaysia never committed? The approval to Gerbang Perdana to build a crooked then a scenic, then a straight and then a no bridge?

Where else will you get the deputy prime minister painting himself into a corner with the resignation of Shahrir Abdul Samad, the Backbenchers Club baying for his return and Najib claiming that they had no choice but to accept Sharir's resignation.

Najib is so unconvincing but no one dare cry 'the emperor has no clothes' because they cannot vote with their conscience.
