In line with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's aim of assembling a clean cabinet, Perlis Mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin (above) revealed that he was informed the new line-up will comprise only individuals cleared of corruption or other criminal cases.

In a Facebook post, Asri said he was informed of the matter by Muhyiddin himself, during a dinner conversation at the Bersatu president's house on Saturday night.

“What pleases me is that he (Muhyiddin) informed me that, InsyaAllah, the line-up of his cabinet would be those who passed the MACC and PDRM screenings," said Asri.

Other than screening their current records, Asri indicated that Muhyiddin had also requested his picks to verify their academic credentials.

“I was also informed by those in charge that he (Muhyiddin) had asked everyone who would be a member of his cabinet not to make any false claim about their academic certificates.

“Everyone should state their actual academic qualifications," he said.

Asri said he also shared with Muhyiddin the people's hope that a Perikatan Nasional government would comprise honest and efficient ministers, not seen to oppose the nation's fundamentals, particularly on matters related to Islam

Together with ordinary Malaysians, Asri said he would personally support a good government for the sake of the religion and the country.

"I am with the rest of the ordinary people, ever ready to support and help.

"Thus, I am also willing to criticise the government if things go wrong," he added.

Muhyiddin is scheduled to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this morning before making a formal announcement on his cabinet line-up at 5pm today.
