CORONAVIRUS | Malaysia's total Covid-19 cases have almost doubled in a single day to 428 cases.
Health Minister Adham Baba (above) said there were 190 new cases recorded up to 12pm today.
"Based on the preliminary investigation, most of the new cases are linked with the cluster of the tabligh gathering at Sri Petaling mosque," he said in a statement.
It is the highest single-day increase to date. The second-highest increase was recorded yesterday with 41 new cases.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit that have to be put on ventilators have increased from five to nine.
Adham said efforts to track down participants of the tabligh gathering is still ongoing.
The gathering at Sri Petaling mosque took place from Feb 27 to March 1, involving some 16,000 people. An estimated 14,500 were Malaysians while another 1,500 were foreigners.
"The Health Ministry urges participants of the tabligh gathering to contact the nearest district health office for further action," Adham said.
He added that the participants and their close contact will need to be under quarantine for 14 days.
In a related development, Adham said seven Covid-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 42 recoveries.
