Nurse, 32, succumbs to Covid-19, 71 new cases recorded

CORONAVIRUS | A medical staff was among the latest two deaths related to Covid-19, revealed Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah this evening.

Malaysiakini has since confirmed that the deceased was a nurse.

Speaking at a press conference in Putrajaya, Noor Hisham said 71 new cases were recorded between noon yesterday and noon today, raising the total to 5,603.

The total number of active cases is 1,966. Of those undergoing treatment, 42 patients are in intensive care units and 21 on respirators.

On a positive note, Noor Hisham said 90 more patients have been cured, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,542 or 63.2 percent.

The two deaths, on the other hand, have increased the death toll to 95.

Patient 3871

A 32-year-old Malaysian woman who had a history of high blood pressure. She was a Health Ministry medical staff who had close contact with Patient 3662, who is related to the Muar specialist hospital cluster in Johor.

She was treated at the Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom since April 6 and succumbed to the illness on April 23 at 12.36am.

This is the third death involving healthcare workers.

Patient 4129

A 67-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure as well as heart and kidney-related diseases.

He had close contact with Patient 1575, who is related to the suspected cases of Malaysians who returned from Bali, Indonesia. He was treated at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan in Pahang since April 8. He died on April 22 at 11.48pm.
