This is being done particularly in the cases where the cause of death is suspicious, sources working in public healthcare said.
“Yes, for cases with a high degree of suspicion,” a source was quoted as saying by The Malaysian Insight.
Another source said all hospitals have started such tests during the post-mortem for such deaths.
Malaysiakini has texted Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah for a response.
A man who was reportedly hanging from a tree at Gaya Island, Sabah, on April 6 was later tested positive for Covid-19.
On April 10, Noor Hisham said the coronavirus still stayed on the surface of the skin of the deceased.
