Wan Saiful to Tajuddin: Where to put Zahid if Muhyiddin returns to Umno?

David Dass: The extreme flexibility of the minds of thinkers like Bersatu leader Wan Saiful Wan Jan is truly extraordinary. He is able to hold conflicting truths or positions in his mind without shame or embarrassment. And he will articulate them before the appropriate audience as it suits him.

Those who meet him are impressed with a person of such vision and principle. He is a man with a silvery tongue. He appears to have found a mentor and a kindred soul in former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Yes, there were those like DAP leaders P Ramasamy and Ronnie Liu who breached the ranks of Pakatan Harapan by striking out at their supreme leader openly.

There were some like us who also felt that their interests would have been better served if they articulated their problems with their leadership behind closed doors.

But they, like many of us, were confused. They sense some conflict of principle. Some contradiction between action and promised pledges.

Unfortunately, everything became very clear during the Malay Dignity Congress when Mahathir declared his position - that he was forced to compromise the interests of Malays with people who became citizens without qualification because the Malays were weak and divided.

In the end, the plot once and for all ends the issue of succession of PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim and the strong presence of DAP by his abortive attempt to form the unity government he envisioned.

He caused the collapse of the Harapan government, not the dissident voices within Harapan. All trusted Mahathir even though his past actions and utterances were so clear.

The non-Malays who supported Harapan were never opposed to Malay unity. They were opposed to injustice, unfairness and wrongdoing. They supported democracy and reform of democratic institutions with a view of strengthening them.

They supported a disciplined and professional police force, a highly competent civil service and an independent judiciary to hold the balance between state and citizens and to uphold the rule of law.

It did not matter that the majority in these institutions were Malays. It would have been good for the nation and good for the people. Alas, that was not to be.

They pursued Malay unity even if that meant betrayal of principles and promises made and the exclusion of the non-Malays from the government.

Newday: Wan Saiful, in your early days as part of the Harapan coalition, you showed much promise, then it went downhill from there.

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation’s (PTPTN) re-payments cock-up, going turncoat to support Perikatan Nasional (PN) and now you descend further by attacking Penang Deputy Chief Minister P Ramasamy. For what? Bringing up controversial matters, you say.

Someone has to raise the ‘difficult to stomach’ issues, otherwise how to progress? You are just another failed academic who is only interested in the political obsession to stay in power no matter the cost to morals and ethics.

Anonymous122277: This is typical of a Malay politician like Wan Saiful. He still has the deeply embedded mindset of Malay first and Malaysian second.

This antiquated mindset will never bring Malaysia forward as shown by more than 60 years of Umno (read: Malay) dominated government with no inspiring results to shout about.

It is time for all politicians to adopt different political approaches to turn Malaysia into a nation where all Malaysians can be proud of.

Mortality: Wan Saiful, you are blaming everyone else for the collapse of the Harapan government except yourself.

Make no mistake about it, any objective historian will point to the resignation of the naked emperor that brought the ouster of the Harapan government. It is with the cluster of frogs from Bersatu and PKR that the backdoor government is made.

Where to put Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (should Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin join Umno)? Wrong question.

It is Muhyiddin and the frogs who will have to worry about their position in Umno.

One: There is no dispute that what brought the Harapan government down was Bersatu, including Mahathir.

As a party, you have no distinct philosophy. You are just a copy of Umno. That is made even clearer when you are not disputing the ability to join Umno from principles, but from the fact that Zahid is still there and needs a job.

How pitiful Bersatu looks.

Karma: Besides Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Wan Saiful was the one who we also used to love. One by one these people who fought Umno and became champions of Harapan betrayed us.

It saddened us all that they worked with Umno to destroy the Harapan government. And stop blaming the party that allowed freedom of speech. Blame yourself for being greedy.

RKR: Recently, Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chief Rais Yatim tweeted that Rohingyas are emboldened to ask for equal rights due to their increasing numbers in Malaysia, just like the non-Malays.

He suggested that the non-Malays never talked about their rights before independence due to their smaller numbers.

Is there any hope for this country with leaders like these?

He was the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) chairperson not long ago. I thought he was a good man. Who can guess he has become like this? So sad indeed.

Bluemountains: Never judge a book by its cover. Many from Umno/Bersatu/PAS get appointed to some positions after they start to criticise the PN government or voice controversial issues.

They have to make some noise for their big boss to take notice.
