More than 6,600 daycare centres will be allowed to reopen immediately with the issuance of new guidelines.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob (above) said at present only 304 daycare centres nationwide have reopened under the existing guidelines, which has made it difficult for parents to return to work.
He said the new standard operating procedure (SOP) for nurseries will be uploaded on the Women and Family Community Development Ministry and Social Welfare Department's respective websites.
As of the time of writing, the new guidelines have yet to be published.
Ismail said the permission was given following complaints from working parents who have no one to take care of their children.
"Many working parents have problems sending their children to daycare centres.
"There were private companies that forced their employees to take unpaid leaves to take care of their children.
"The employers should not do that. Therefore, to solve this problem, we allow the centres to resume operations," he said.

Meanwhile, for kindergartens, the Education Ministry will be streamlining guidelines before they are allowed to reopen.
This is as kindergartens fall under the purview of several different ministries, said Ismail.
On other matters, he said the government will be discussing new guidelines for houses of worship, hairdressers, and pasar malam (night market) activities this Saturday.
This includes whether congregational prayers at mosques can be flexible depending on the size of the building.
